EBAY

E-commerce page redesign

I decided to redesign eBay's product page and improve the page through the use of colours, icons, and a grid.

My redesign uses the eBay colours to create a hierarchy and new icons to improve visual interest and grab the user's attention.

eBay's Current Design

Sketches

At the start of the design process, I looked at possible ways to improve the product pay. I wanted to use the eBay colours to make features stand out to help the user easily see the important points of interest.

Thoughts about the current website and what may or may not need to be changed.
Before & After Redesign

I used a grid to allow the content on the page to be displayed in a organised and consistent way to allow the user to guide their eyes to the information that they are looking for.

I concentrated on suitable icons to help grab the users attention as they scroll through the page.

I wanted the navigation bar to be an important feature on the page and be sticky. But once the user scrolls down it fades away but appears if scrolled up. I want to make browsing the website easier for user’s, especially when eBay has an exhaustive amount of products. Also to help the users move around the website quicker since they’re able to locate what they’re looking for without having to scroll all of the way up to the top.

Another feature on the navigation bar is the shopping trolley, settings and to add a personal touch to the profile, I wanted to use the users' name  'Hi, Janet".

Final Thoughts

I found this project to be an extremely valuable exercise. The original website had a lot of content on the page that was important and my intention was not to completely overhaul the visual language of eBay, but merely to update and modernise it.

I wanted the user to have less work to do -  less scrolling, clicking etc. and to present the important information on the landing screen.

I didn't want to completely redesign the whole product page because people don't like change. My aim was to organise the content in such a way that was easier to find information and to improve the UI design without too much of a change but resulting in a visible improvement for the user.
